Campfire Coffee Magic: How the AeroPress Go Makes Every Trip Better

There’s something magical about waking up to the sound of a river flowing gently by your tent, birds chirping, and the soft rustling of leaves in the morning breeze. This past weekend, we packed our bags and headed out for a much-needed camping trip, armed with our trusty AeroPress Go and a bag of Highwood Coffee’s Mountain Roast. Little did we know, this combination would become the highlight of our mornings.

A Perfect Morning by the River

The first morning, we woke up just as the sun began to peek over the horizon, casting a golden glow across the landscape. The air was crisp and fresh, filled with the promise of a beautiful day ahead. As we unzipped the tent and stepped outside, the serene sound of the river greeted us, creating a perfect backdrop for our morning coffee ritual.

With the AeroPress Go, brewing a delicious cup of coffee was a breeze, even in the great outdoors. We set up our little coffee station on a fold-out table, enjoying the simplicity of the process from our Big Agnes Skyline camp chairs.

Brewing with the AeroPress Go

Here’s how we brewed our morning magic:

1. Setup: We started by assembling the AeroPress Go, attaching the filter cap to the chamber, and placing a paper filter inside. A quick rinse with hot water, and we were ready to go.

2. Add Coffee: We measured out some of our favorite Highwood Coffee Mountain Roast. The rich aroma of the coffee beans blended perfectly with the fresh morning air.

3. Heat Water: Using our GSI Outdoors Camping pot set and MSR Pocket Rocket stove, we quickly brought water to a boil. The compact and efficient setup made heating water a breeze, even out in the wilderness.

4. Pour Water: With hot water from our camping kettle, we carefully poured over the coffee grounds, watching as they began to bloom and release their wonderful fragrances.

5. Stir and Press: A gentle stir, and then the satisfying press as the AeroPress Go worked its magic, extracting all those delicious flavors.

6. Enjoy: And just like that, our coffee was ready. Sitting by the river, with the sun rising and nature waking up around us, we took our first sips. The caramel, cocoa, and berry notes of the Mountain Roast danced on our taste buds, perfectly complemented by the peaceful surroundings.

The Perfect Camping Companion

The AeroPress Go proved to be the ultimate camping companion. It’s lightweight, compact, and incredibly easy to use, making it perfect for our outdoor adventures. Here’s why we loved it:

- Compact and Portable: The AeroPress Go fits snugly into its own mug, which doubles as a carrying case. It took up hardly any space in our camping gear, leaving plenty of room for other essentials.

- Durable and Easy to Clean: Made from sturdy materials, the AeroPress Go handled the rough and tumble of camping life without a hitch. And cleanup was a breeze—just pop out the coffee grounds and give it a quick rinse.

- Versatile: Whether you’re in the mood for a strong espresso-like shot or a smooth cup of American coffee, the AeroPress Go has you covered. It even makes cold brew for those warmer days.

Coffee and Camping: A Match Made in Heaven

Pairing our AeroPress Go with Highwood Coffee’s Mountain Roast made our mornings truly special. The Mountain Roast, with its unique blend of beans from Peru, Brazil, and Guatemala, brought out rich flavors of caramel, cocoa, berries, and spring floral notes. It was the perfect way to start our day, fueling us for hikes, fishing, and exploring the beauty of nature.

Aeropress Go Recipe

AeroPress Go Coffee Brewing Recipe

To make the perfect cup of coffee with your AeroPress Go, follow this simple and foolproof recipe. We recommend using Highwood Coffee’s Mountain Roast for a rich and flavorful brew.

Ingredients:

  • 15 grams (1 rounded tablespoon) of Highwood Coffee’s Mountain Roast, ground to a medium-fine consistency

  • 240 grams (8 ounces) of hot water (around 200°F)

  • AeroPress Go coffee maker

  • Paper filter

  • Stirring paddle or spoon

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Your AeroPress Go:

    • Place a paper filter in the AeroPress filter cap and rinse it with hot water. This removes any papery taste and preheats the brewer.

    • Assemble the AeroPress Go by attaching the filter cap to the chamber and placing it on your sturdy coffee mug or the AeroPress Go’s own mug.

  2. Add Coffee Grounds:

    • Measure 15 grams of Highwood Coffee’s Mountain Roast and grind it to a medium-fine consistency. Add the coffee grounds to the AeroPress chamber.

  3. Pour Hot Water:

    • Heat 240 grams of water to about 200°F. Slowly pour the hot water over the coffee grounds, filling the chamber up to the top (240 grams). Make sure all the grounds are evenly saturated.

  4. Stir and Steep:

    • Using the AeroPress stirring paddle or a spoon, stir the coffee-water mixture for about 10 seconds to ensure even extraction.

  5. Press:

    • Attach the plunger to the top of the AeroPress and gently press down. Use steady, even pressure to push the coffee through the filter. The entire pressing process should take about 30 seconds.

  6. Enjoy:

    • Once you’ve finished pressing, remove the AeroPress from your mug and give the coffee a quick stir. Your freshly brewed cup of Highwood Coffee’s Mountain Roast is now ready to enjoy.

Tips for the Perfect Brew:

  • Adjust Grind Size: If the coffee tastes too bitter, try a coarser grind. If it’s too weak, try a finer grind.

  • Experiment with Ratios: Feel free to adjust the coffee-to-water ratio based on your personal taste preferences.

  • Use Fresh Coffee: For the best flavor, use freshly roasted and ground coffee. Highwood Coffee’s Mountain Roast offers a delightful mix of caramel, cocoa, berries, and spring floral notes that shine through when brewed with care.

There’s no Wi-Fi in the forest, but you’ll find a better connection over a cup of coffee.
