Re-Introducing Highwood Coffee: Our Journey and Future Vision

Hello to all our wonderful customers—both new and old! As we continue our journey with Highwood Coffee, we wanted to take a moment to reintroduce ourselves, share our story, and give you a glimpse into our exciting plans for the future.

Who We Are

Highwood Coffee is a family-owned specialty coffee roaster based in the beautiful city of Calgary, Alberta. We are passionate about sustainably sourcing and crafting exceptional coffee that brings joy to your daily routine. Our family—Sara, James, and our two children, Soren and Cameron—are at the heart of this endeavor, working together to bring you the best coffee experience possible.

Our Story

The idea for Highwood Coffee was born out of our love for cycling and the vibrant coffee culture that accompanies it. While cycling the famous Highwood Pass, we envisioned creating a coffee business that would combine our passions and values. The culture of cycling often includes a pit stop at a cozy coffee shop, and James, having spent much of his youth road cycling with the Alberta Provincial Team, embraced this tradition wholeheartedly. The lessons of goal-setting, hard work, and teamwork from his cycling days have deeply influenced our approach to building Highwood Coffee.

Sara, on the other hand, grew up camping and enjoying the serene mountain air with her family. Her love for cycling and coffee developed during university, and she has since combined these passions with her work as an oncology nurse, participating in numerous Alberta cancer fundraisers. Together, we've spent countless hours cycling, exploring small bistros and coffee shops, and sharing these experiences with our two young boys.

Our Commitment to Quality and Sustainability

From the very beginning, our goal has been to produce high-quality specialty coffee that not only delights your taste buds but also supports sustainable practices. We work closely with a Master Roaster to ensure that each batch of coffee meets our high standards, scoring 80 points or higher on the SCA scale. This commitment to excellence means that you can trust every cup of Highwood Coffee to be fresh, flavorful, and ethically sourced.

We're also dedicated to minimizing our environmental impact. Partnering with #Bullfrogpower, we use renewable energy for our roasting operations. Our coffee bags are recycled through TerraCycle, and we encourage our customers to leave their empty bags out for us to pick up when we deliver your next batch of coffee. Additionally, we aim to deliver hyper-locally by bicycle whenever possible, reducing our carbon footprint and supporting a healthier community.

Looking Ahead

As we continue to grow, our vision remains focused on expanding our reach while staying true to our roots. We're excited to share that we plan to open a coffee shop in the future—a dream that has been with us since the beginning. This space will not only serve as a hub for coffee lovers but also a community gathering spot where we can share our passion for coffee, cycling, and the great outdoors.

Currently, you can find our premium coffee beans at local farmers' markets, including the Sunalta Market on Saturdays and a monthly market at University District. We invite you to visit us, try our latest roasts, and join us in celebrating the rich flavors and stories behind each cup of Highwood Coffee.

Thank You

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all our customers for your continued support. Your enthusiasm and loyalty drive us to keep pushing the boundaries of what we can achieve. Whether you're a long-time fan or new to Highwood Coffee, we're thrilled to have you on this journey with us.

Stay connected with us on social media, and don't forget to share your Highwood Coffee moments using #HighwoodCoffee. Let's continue to grow, one cup at a time.

With gratitude, Sara, James, Soren, and Cameron Highwood Coffee Family
